How do I get my products found by ChatGPT and other AI shopping tools?
A plain guide for UK online shop owners: how AI assistants choose which shops to recommend, and the steps that make yours one of them.
The short answer
AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity search the web when a shopper asks what to buy, then recommend the shops they can find, read and trust. If your pages are hard for them to read, or don't say plainly what you sell and who it suits, they recommend someone else.
Getting found comes down to five things: AI can read your pages, your products say what they are for, the listings AI reads are switched on, other sites mention you, and you measure the result.
1. Make sure AI can read your pages
Many modern websites only show their content after the browser runs JavaScript. Some AI tools read pages without running it, so they see a blank page with a title and nothing else. Check that each page's text is there in the page itself, and that every page has its own clear title and description.
2. Say what each product is for
Most product descriptions say how a product looks. AI assistants answer questions like "which one suits a small living room?" or "what's best for a beginner?", so they look for what a product is for, who it suits and what a customer needs to know.
- Who the product suits and what problem it solves
- Sizes, fit, compatibility and what's in the box
- Delivery, returns, installation and warranty, stated plainly
- Your own words, not the manufacturer's copied description
3. Switch on the listings AI reads
AI shopping answers often draw on product listings rather than web pages. Google's free Shopping listings (through Google Merchant Center) put your products, prices and stock where Google and others can read them. Shopify shops can also check the sales channels inside their admin. Keep prices and stock accurate, because an assistant won't recommend something it thinks is out of stock.
4. Get mentioned elsewhere
Assistants trust shops that other sites mention. The quickest wins are usually the makers you stock (ask to be listed on their "where to buy" page), a complete Google Business Profile with reviews, review sites, and "best of" articles in your field.
5. Measure it
Ask ChatGPT and Gemini the questions your customers ask, the way they ask them, and note whether your shop appears and who appears instead. Ask the same questions every month, so you can see whether your changes are working.
That is exactly what our free AI visibility check does for you, and the AI audit then fixes what it finds.
